Wouldn't you think the might get moldy? We once had a bird feeder like that and it looked pretty disgusting after a while because of mold.
I won't know until I try it. I'll definitely add a little charcoal, just like you would in a terrarium. We'll see how it goes.
Maybe it's different if it gets watered regularly. Good luck, it sounds like a neat idea.
