Cooking School: How to Cut Up a Whole Chicken
I didn't realize my favorite recipe site, AllRecipes.com had a "Cooking School" section. Here's a useful tutorial: How to Cut Up a Whole Chicken. Check out the other tutorials as well - very helpful.
This would come in handy for those who may have bought whole chickens at Food Lion on sale this past week. I learned to cut up a chicken from my Mama. She used to buy, cut up and cook 2 every week, fried for Sunday dinner, of course! This is the only way to get my daughter's favorite piece, the pulley bone/wish bone.
My grandparents cooked their own chicken from the yard. My "papa" would eat the feet so that everyone else could have a regular piece of chicken. I guess he liked them. (yuck) I remembered the chickens getting their necks wrung.... well we don't need to go into the details here.... Just learning to cut up a store bought chicken is probably enough for today's young housewife!
I love your stories form your childhood. :) We've got friends with farms and chickens...I know you get used to it, but I'd rather get the chicken after the job's been done!
As you know, I see those feet at the store all the time, and they are not inexpensive, which always surprises me...very popular in the South.
