Frugal Effective Moisturizer - Crisco Shortening

After reading about the excellent moisturizing properties of Crisco shortening, I finally tried it on my face and hands. It works better than any of the natural oils that I use, and doesn't break me out. Crisco absorbed quickly, and my hands remained soft even through frequent hand washings. It has balanced my face which is middle aged and temperamental; I alternate between dry and blemish prone. Best of all, it doesn't stay greasy and has no odor. This is definitely something that I will continue to use on my skin. It may be too heavy for the summer, but I usually go moisturizer free during the warmer months.

I have to admit that I've never even considered that. I'm allergic to quite a bit, as is my daughter, but I would imagine that crisco is probably pretty safe. I might have to try it.

I sometimes use extra virgin coconut oil for that, which we buy cooking. It lasts a long time although it is quite expensive. But I think it's similar in consistency to Crisco.

Eva, I've tried that as well, but it didn't work for me. It was too weak, but everyone's skin is different. I've tried so many natural oils, but my skin has finally found a happy match with Crisco. :)

The worst for me was olive oil. It clogged my facial pores the color of the oil - yuck. It did reasonably well on the body.

My oldest darling has eczema and I'm hoping the crisco helps her! Thank you Alexandra for the link.

My son had that. It's terrible in the hot weather - flares up. I hope it helps too. We had to use a steroid creme on his when he was little. Nothing seemed to help, and I didn't know about the Crisco. He gets it rarely now, but we can only use natural oils on his skin or it hurts(stings).

Update: My tween dd is having success with the Crisco over the OTC stuff.

She likes that it is 'fragrance-free' and that it's actually helping.

She was told to not eat FRIED Foods by a nutrition specialist Chiropractor friend of ours. That also seems to be helping. But I couldn't tell you why.
