DIY Children's Futon
This was made from four pillows and three yards of fabric. See the blogspot link under the image for instructions. Openings can be left to remove pillows for washing. I think I'd use a velcro closure. I wonder if you could just sew together four pillow cases? Time to experiment.

Looks great. Definitely going to put this in my to do list.
We used to sleep on a futon, which was also our living-room coach. After several years our backs began to hurt and we couldn't sleep there anymore. Now the futon is just our couch. Jonathan sleeps on a futon, which used to be our guest bed. He hasn't developed any problems yet, but he is still young.
