About Me

My Photo
A homeschooling mother of one teenager and a little. In 2001, I resigned from my 13 year position as a case manager to homeschool my oldest who was a preschooler at the time, and later a daughter who came along in 2005. This is by far the hardest job I've ever loved. My husband of nearly 20 years supports us as a fire fighter and EMT.

School Bells Are Ringing

We have officially begun first grade with my daughter. I located all of my son's former first grade curriculum books except for some math workbooks. They've been in the attic for seven years, so I still need to do some more searching through boxes. We had used a wipe-off system with a plastic cover and felt pens, so the workbooks are unworked.

My son begins eighth grade homeschool after Labor Day.

Hooray!! :) How will it be doing two academic grades at once? I imagine your boy is pretty self-sufficient at this point?

Yep, my son is an independent learner. I help him in the afternoon if he needs it, but the curriculum is pretty much self teach. I give him a lot of extra study opportunities - books, articles, discussions, field trips, movies, etc.

The first few grades are really labor intensive, comparatively. It's been easy since about sixth grade. We are required to test here at the end of the year, and he is definitely learning without micromanagement.
