About Me

My Photo
A homeschooling mother of one teenager and a little. In 2001, I resigned from my 13 year position as a case manager to homeschool my oldest who was a preschooler at the time, and later a daughter who came along in 2005. This is by far the hardest job I've ever loved. My husband of nearly 20 years supports us as a fire fighter and EMT.

Summer Non-plans

My son is just about finished with all his school books. He'll continue with his favorite curriculum, Rod & Staff(eighth grade) in the fall. He's a year ahead in math, so we will switch to CLE for ninth grade math. Rod & Staff math ends at eighth grade. Summer should begin for him in June, and we'll probably take the entire summer off, beginning eighth grade in September.

My daughter is informally schooled, so she'll just keep learning with field trips(museums, nature parks, etc), books, and other educational materials. She begins first grade(homeschool) this coming fall. I'm going to try her out with my son's old Rod & Staff books, which I saved. We'll see if she takes to them. If not, I'll try my own version of an Old Fashioned Education. We already supplement with quite a lot of vintage and conservative books in addition to formal curriculum. I have a general Plan B in my head, so switching gears would not be a stretch.

We'll be having a quiet summer with no plans other than just to "be". I must be running on empty because just doing nothing sounds great. Lately, I haven't been inspired creatively, but I'm hoping summer down-time will give me back my spark. Maybe I'll sleep until noon - gasp!

The only home plans we have is to get some touch-up painting done on our painted floors, and I'd like to add some house plants. We have low light, so I'm looking at the low light tolerant Cast Iron plant which is hard to find now.

Looking forward to lazy summer days with the feet in a kiddie pool, and a tall glass of fresh lemonade.

Sounds like a wonderful summer!! You'll have the heat you need for that foot pool and lemonade :)

I kind of like the idea of a lazy summer myself. But I don't think we're going to have one, the house needs to be painted outside and my husband in an Engineer so that means we have to do it ourselves.
