About Me

My Photo
A homeschooling mother of one teenager and a little. In 2001, I resigned from my 13 year position as a case manager to homeschool my oldest who was a preschooler at the time, and later a daughter who came along in 2005. This is by far the hardest job I've ever loved. My husband of nearly 20 years supports us as a fire fighter and EMT.

There is No Greater Joy

"There is no greater joy at Christmas than coming into a relationship with Jesus. Too many times we have worn ourselves out, driven by our expectations to have the “perfect” Christmas. It’s a set-up for disappointment.
All of the shopping, decorating, entertaining never fully meets our deepest longings. For Christmas to be special, we simply need to receive Jesus’ gift to us…a relationship with him. Knowing him brings great meaning and enjoyment at Christmas, no matter who knocks over the Christmas tree." ~ Thoughts About God

Whichever your denomination, it's a personal relationship with God which comes before all else. If the secular Christmas rituals are getting in the way of your relationship with Him, cut back or drop them, and create new traditions with your family that reflect the reason for the season. This is a season for quiet reflection, to be still, and hear His message of peace, joy, and hope.

This is all so true. I think that if we put the Lord first in the holidays, they can actually be a restorative time. I love trying to Christmas Christ-centered. It fills me up and helps me face the New Year with renewed vitality.

Just ran across this blog and this particular post - I could not agree more! Without Jesus we wouldn't have a reason to celebrate and trying to do Christmas without him is depressing - not joyful. I think I did a little better this year by trying to remember this - and my husband offered to take over all the shopping in an effort to let me simply enjoy the season. This helped tremendously. In the future, I plan to start a study on the foretelling and birth of Jesus the month prior to December to meditate more on the reason we celebrate. Thanks for sharing!
