About Me

My Photo
A homeschooling mother of one teenager and a little. In 2001, I resigned from my 13 year position as a case manager to homeschool my oldest who was a preschooler at the time, and later a daughter who came along in 2005. This is by far the hardest job I've ever loved. My husband of nearly 20 years supports us as a fire fighter and EMT.

Following the Son

October 5th, 2010 - October 5th, 2011

"What the sun is to that sunflower, Jesus Christ is to my soul." ~ Tennyson

The art project for this week is "Bliss". Express how this word has personal meaning in your life. See here for more information. This is open to all folks, not just artists. And you don't have to do all 52 weeks to participate, just pick and choose, or try one.

My daughter and I worked on this challenge. The orange sunflowers bled into the black making a muddy brown. Maybe we'll get better with practice. ; ) The sunflower on the right and far left are cut outs from a Van Gogh Sunflower.

The Sun Flower, a children's story from a 1841 third grade reader with questions. Free and in public domain. To print, just right click on the images of the pages at the link.

THE SUNFLOWER.
A MORNING HYMN.

Young Christian, wake !—the joyous sun
His race of glory hath begun—
     And, see, with drooping grace,
To where in furthest east he burns,
The sunflower meek in worship turns
     Her bright and golden face.
Mark we his course blue heaven along,
Hymn'd by each joyful bird of song—

     Mark we his votary too—
How for his smile her bosom yearns—
How, following him, she turns—she turns—
With constant heart and true !

But while we watch from east to west
The worship of her faithful breast,
May thought the symbol bless ;—
From her let every Christian learn
T'ward Jesus thus through life to turn,
     "The Sun of Righteousness !"
~ The Evergreen, 1848
