We nixed the idea of building our own table after we saw this set(pictured) at a thrift. It fit perfectly with our new Rustic Modern decorating theme. The top is laminate so I never have to worry about water damage. The seats are pleather and very easy to wipe clean. It was a breeze to clean up after the children today. The floor is painted concrete, which we still need to finish. It had been carpeted and was very difficult to keep clean.

I wanted a modern retro feel, but the prices for this style were wild! Check out this
Bauhaus inspired piece - over $4000.00! We spent $75.00 for our four piece set at a non-profit charity thrift.
This style is a total departure from my usual thrifted(shabby)French Country preference, but much more practical with children, especially children who learn at home. Inspiration images gathered from Google Images:

Really Nice!
French Country is cute and lovely, but so is a table that keeps it's good looks.
I searched hi and low for a laminate topped table when we moved into our house three years ago. I couldn't find one in the regular furniture stores and had to order one from a local used/new furniture store. Still it wasn't that expensive less than $200! Best decorating decision I have ever made! It still looks great even with the countless 'craft' projects and playdoh sessions!
If I hadn't found it, I suppose I'd still be eating dinner off a glass topped patio table!
Restaurant supply places have them as well. It would be a great surface for Playdoh! We had banned it up until now because of the mess/damage.
What a great deal you found! It looks nice and a huge plus that it is easy to keep clean. This spring I finally purchased a new kitchen set and dining room set after having the same beat up, lovingly used one for 13 years. Although my kids are older now...I'm still nervous and won't let anyone use the dining room set. The kitchen set is glass and iron so I don't worry so much about it.
I can't wait to see your floor when it's finished. I'm very intrigued by the idea!
