About Me

My Photo
A homeschooling mother of one teenager and a little. In 2001, I resigned from my 13 year position as a case manager to homeschool my oldest who was a preschooler at the time, and later a daughter who came along in 2005. This is by far the hardest job I've ever loved. My husband of nearly 20 years supports us as a fire fighter and EMT.

Save-A-Lot Grocery Deal

Check your local Save-A-Lot grocery store; ours just reduced their 10 pound bags of chicken quarters to .59 cents a pound this week. I've been buying these chicken quarters to boil for shredded chicken, which is very easy to freeze flat, and store in even the smallest of freezers.

Boiling the chicken makes sure you get every last bit of meat off the bone, and you get the extra nutrients from the stock. The fat and the skin are skimmed off making for a more healthful meal.

Shredded chicken is wonderful for casseroles, Mexican dishes, sandwiches, and creole type rice dishes. I've also gotten a good amount of chicken and bone stock from these chicken quarters.

Great idea. No SAve-a-lots out here. I love boiling up turkey, ham and beef leftovers!

Thanks for your Save A Lot posts. I shop there too and I always like to read of fellow shoppers who are having success there too. :) NIcole

Thanks for your comments. :)

Yes, the store is a blessing for us. The other grocery stores in our area have some crazy prices lately. I saw Folger's coffee on "sale" at Food lion for $9.99 yesterday. The same size is $4.99 - $5.99 at Save-A-Lot and places like Family Dollar.
