About Me

My Photo
A homeschooling mother of one teenager and a little. In 2001, I resigned from my 13 year position as a case manager to homeschool my oldest who was a preschooler at the time, and later a daughter who came along in 2005. This is by far the hardest job I've ever loved. My husband of nearly 20 years supports us as a fire fighter and EMT.

Memorial of Saint Bruno, Founder of the Carthusians

I just finished reading, The Thistle and the Rose, a historical fiction by Jean Plaidy on Margaret Tudor, queen consort of Scotland, wife of King James IV. Margaret was buried at the Carthusian Priory of St John in Perth which was later demolished during the Reformation, 1559. Which reminds me, Soutenus had a nice post yesterday for the memorial day of Saint Bruno:

St. Bruno - Feast: October 6th (Optional Memorial)

Born: 1035 -- Died: 1101 -- Canonized: Unknown Roman Calendar: Yes (1623) -- Roman Canon: No -
St. Bruno was born in Cologne in 1035 A.D. He was educated in Paris. St. Bruno desired the solitary life and founded the Carthusians.

The Carthusians motto is "While the world changes, the cross stands firm."

St. Bruno sought "to seek God assiduously, to find God promptly, and to possess God fully."

He died in Squillace in 1101 A.D. St. Bruno is the Patron Saint of Possessed.

Read more here. Soutenus also writes about a documentary film that I saw last year during Lent, Into Great Silence which was filmed at a Carthusian monastery in the French Alps.
