The months of September and October are loosely defined as the “shoulder season”, that mellow time between the expensive and busy summer travel season and the full-blown holiday mode. If you have the time, it’s a great time to travel. Read more here.
If you vacation at popular resort vacation spots in the U.S., many times bargain super saver motels are a safe pick. I won't mention the names, but some of these inexpensive no frills national hotel/motel chains can be located in less than desirable areas, at least those found outside of large resort areas. We stay in one at the Jersey shore, great location, but I wouldn't stay at this chain in Washington, D.C., another place we like to visit. Use the internet to search reviews. I've used cheaptickets.com in the past to check out what people have to say about the lower cost hotel/motels.Also check the corporate websites as sometimes they offer the lowest rates with bonuses. I got a free Passport Inn incentive card sent to me from their corporate site which allows me to get 10% off room rates(off season) . The one we frequent is clean and in a super lcation with a pool, but at least $100.00 less a night than the mid-range hotels.
