We use those all metal water savers in our shower. We got ours at our state fair's water exposition. This one sold at Amazon looks almost identical to the one that we use. It has a five customer star rating at Amazon.

Yuck! This makes me glad that we just installed new shower heads that have had no chance to gunk up yet and that they are metal.
It also makes me want to include soaking them in bleach once or twice a year to kill whatever gathers!
