About Me

My Photo
A homeschooling mother of one teenager and a little. In 2001, I resigned from my 13 year position as a case manager to homeschool my oldest who was a preschooler at the time, and later a daughter who came along in 2005. This is by far the hardest job I've ever loved. My husband of nearly 20 years supports us as a fire fighter and EMT.

Spiritual Warfare: Gluttony

I am down another pound, but it's been a difficult week. The temptation to bake banana bread and eat the entire loaf has crossed my mind! With prayer I've managed to make good eating choices, and stay on my diet. I've noticed that I do better when I get more sleep. I've stayed up too late a few nights, and the next day I could barely make it through the day without being grumpy. Whereas in the past, I may have fortified myself with extra carbs to get through a sleepy day, now I have to just get through.

So, earlier bedtimes are in order. Thanks to a few readers who have been picking up the slack on my posts. My brain is still a bit fuzzy, so I'm missing things. I give myself a "C" for the past week for sloppy thinking. LOL.

Philippians 4:5, "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand".

1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's". HT to What Does the Bible Say About Gluttony.

Seven Deadly Sins: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride.
Seven Virtues: Chastity, Temperance, Charity, Diligence, Patience, Kindness, and Humility.

Aquinas Ethicus, Of Gluttony.

Father I thank you that I am able to possess my vessel (body). I thank you that I have the will to lose unhealthy pounds and make better food choices. Thank you Lord that I have an appetite and a desire for foods that will nourish my body.

Father, because you are always with me, I know that I am not alone in this. I claim victory over obesity; over-weight; and unhealthy eating habits.

Father, give me the wisdom to make the right choices for my body. And let your light of success, shine in me, that others will see my good works, and glorify the Father in Heaven. In Jesus name-Amen. Source.

Feel free to add your own Bible passages and prayers in the comment section for all those that need lifting up in their weight loss struggle, a struggle to be free of gluttony.

I love this post. The prayer at the end says everything that I feel.

You are doing good and I know it isn't easy. I am simply not trying hard enough and have not lost any weight. I will lose a few pounds but I usually gain them back in a few days. I am also not getting enough sleep and keep going back to drinking cokes for the energy boost I need to get me through the day. I must do better. Thanks for sharing the post.

Blessings,
Elizabeth

I have nothing to really add except to say, I'm right there with you. I really need to focus on my sleep. I KNOW that is a HUGE issue for me. I also need to focus on the Lord. We are heading to camp soon & since I'll be away from all things modern (as in electricity & the internet!! ::gasp::) I'll have plenty of time to think on these things. ;-)
