About Me

My Photo
A homeschooling mother of one teenager and a little. In 2001, I resigned from my 13 year position as a case manager to homeschool my oldest who was a preschooler at the time, and later a daughter who came along in 2005. This is by far the hardest job I've ever loved. My husband of nearly 20 years supports us as a fire fighter and EMT.

Father's Day: Make Your Own Men's Cologne

Click here for a variety of recipes.

Here's one I made for Father's Day with some scents that I had on hand:

Lemon Cedar Men's Aftershave

- 2 ounces Vodka(can also use witch hazel)
- 8 drops of lemon essential oil
- 8 drops cedar essential oil
- 4 drop bergamont essential oil

Lemon top note with a cedar finish. A few drops of lavender essential oil will give it a hint of sweet, rounding off the cedar. Lime would be nice as well. Interesting glass bottles can be found at places like Pier One, Etsy, or sometimes even the dollar stores. My husband isn't picky, so I used a mini travel spray bottle from Target.

For dry skin add a few drops of aloe vera or glycerin. This will give it more staying power as well.

I get my essential oils at either Vitacost(very inexpensive) or Mountain Rose Herbs(organic)

We didn't celebrate Father's Day this year as my husband had to work, but that's usually the way of it with his odd working hours.

I haven't tried this, but here is the recipe for Bay Rum Aftershave. I'd try to find and use mostly essential oils for this though. Mountain Rose Herbs has the bay essential oil, and a few of the other oils. The oils are less messy and have a stronger, longer lasting scent.
