DeputyHeadmistress has a series of posts on the frugal weddings she helped put together for two of her recently wed daughters. She has some resourceful money saving ideas for a traditional wedding using Etsy, thrift stores, and more.
We had a bare bones wedding with a small cake. I think it cost less than $200.00, sixteen years ago. We went for peaceful and personal. I was never much for pomp and ceremony for myself, but I do enjoy seeing others put on traditional weddings. Anyway, check out Frugal Hacks for this interesting post.

Our wedding cost about the same as yours ($200 or less)and I wouldn't have changed a thing. We will be celebrating 31 years of marriage on September 15th (Our daughter was married on September 3rd and our son's wedding date is set for September 12th). We spent a lot more than that on our daughter's wedding but I did manage to save alot by making all the table cloths and doing all the decorating and flowers. Thanks for sharing this link and I will pass it on to Morgan, my soon to be daughter-in-law. She is a very thrifty young lady and I am sure she will enjoy finding ways to save. I hope your family has a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.
Blessings,
Elizabeth
My stepdaughter is getting married in January, 2010! I think she is doing good about being on a budget, but weddings are expensive anyway!
I just LOVE the picture you chose. So nice!
WOW! You did really well with that, Alexandra! Where did you find your dress?
That sounds like a blog post in itself! With pics, of course! {g}
I was happy to find this post by Deputyheadmistress. I've been following her blog off and on for years, and I know she is very frugal. Glad to pass it along. :)
Dorothy, I had a formal dress on hand, so the most of the cost was for the honeymoon night at an elegant European style hotel in the old town section of Alexandria. Va. My friends pitched in with flowers, video, and a cake on my best friend's mother's home. The marriage was a simple civil ceremony; we got married later in the tiny chapel room at our church.
