About Me

My Photo
A homeschooling mother of one teenager and a little. In 2001, I resigned from my 13 year position as a case manager to homeschool my oldest who was a preschooler at the time, and later a daughter who came along in 2005. This is by far the hardest job I've ever loved. My husband of nearly 20 years supports us as a fire fighter and EMT.

Home Science Tools: Make Your Own Paper

Home Science Tools is a mail order company specializes in science supplies for homeschoolers. They have all the heavy duty supplies that you need for science curricula, but then they also have a section of fun science.

This kit, Papermaking Kit, Handmold I'd like to get for making standard 8.5 x 11 printer paper. This is a great way to recycle your paper, any paper including light cardboard.

Here is another one for smaller sheets of paper, Tin Can Papermaking Kit(ages 5 and up). I don't get this one, but it looks interesting.

A customer in the comment review section at the above link mentioned that you can use cookie cutters with this paper to make animals for the younger children. Which got me to thinking...you could use the paper pulp in any mold! And you don't need a kit for this. The kit is for the screen and other gadgets, you make the pulp in a blender.

A Google search reveals that this is called paper casting(using the pulp as a casting medium). Oh, more stuff to make with recycled paper! There is a lot on this subject, but take a quick peak at this artist who makes bowls and other things out of recycled paper. Next time I need a decorative container for stuff, I'll have to try this.
